Although help and support options are few, Vandelay Premier has a wonderfully fast response time for emailed questions. The company's selection of Photoshop brushes isn't the best we've seen, but it still offers a solid range of styles and the most important website features.

Though the website doesn't offer all the features we looked for, there are still enough to make the site fully functional and quite useful. There are 53 different sets to choose from, and a number of collections, although only two of those collections are brush specific. (The others include vectors and other elements.) There are no free brushes or set samples, but you can preview a set's contents from its details page.

You can use the brush sets for personal or commercial use, and can even change them to suit your needs, though you cannot redistribute or sell altered brush sets. For bulk buyers, a membership is an excellent option. Just purchase a six- or 12-month membership at quite a reasonable rate and then download sets for free.

The website has accounts on social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter, but it does not offer a blog or newsletter for at-a-glance updates and announcements. It also lacks sort or filter options, although there is a basic search box to help you find the set you want.

The brush sets are compatible with Photoshop CS2 through Photoshop CS5.5, but not with the original CS or previous versions like Photoshop 7. While this is inconvenient if you use older versions of the software, it is nice for those with newer versions, since the brushes themselves are a little more updated.

The site doesn't offer a great variety of brush sets, but there is enough there to get a basic collection started or to fill in gaps in existing collections. There are some great abstract elements, including several styles of scribbles and bokeh effect. There are also some great animal silhouette and fish-themed sets.

Perhaps the strongest category is the Artistic Photoshop brushes. With more than a dozen options, including several styles of brush strokes and sponge effects, Vandelay Premier offers perhaps the best selection of artistic PS brushes among all the websites we reviewed.

Other solid categories include Patterns and Textures, which has a handful of options, and People and Anatomy. The people sets are all silhouettes, with themes such as yoga, sports, rock musician and businessperson.

Some categories that are represented have limited options. Stains and Splatters has a couple choices, and there is one wings-themed set. There are no floral elements, but the site has two sets with tree silhouettes. The grunge brush selection is smaller than we would have liked, with just a few brush sets and one brush pattern set. There are also a few corners, which you can combine to create borders or frames.

We were quite disappointed to note that the only help and support option offered is a contact email. There is no FAQs page, no phone number, no installation instructions and no other options. However, our email to the tech team was answered in about an hour, which is an unbelievably amazing turnaround time. The support staff addressed our question fully and courteously.

Summary:

Although Vandelay Premier is not the best option for Photoshop brushes that we reviewed, it has an average variety of brushes and some good website features. The excellent technical support staff somewhat makes up for a lack of other options, though we would have liked to see more choices there.
